Career Status (Tenure)   

Full-time employees must be employed under probationary contract in a position requiring licensure for four consecutive years in the same public school system to be eligible for recommendation for career status. At standard ratings in all functions on the end-of-year evaluation are also required to be awarded career status. Only SP1 and SP2 (continuing license) holders are eligible to track for career status. Teachers who previously held career status (tenure) in North Carolina are eligible to regain career status with CMS after one successful year of teaching.
