Who We Are

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ (CMS) bold vision of preparing every child for college or career requires having exceptional talent at every level of the organization. With more than 18,000 employees, CMS is one of the largest employers in the Mecklenburg County. Each employee at CMS plays a vital role in our mission as we all work together to educate our students and support school system operations.

All That We Do

It takes a village to raise a child, and our school district is comprised of more than just teachers. While we have over 9,000 certified staff, it takes different departments and individuals to ensure our students are taken care of.

Here are just a few examples:

  • Our bus drivers are the first and last CMS faces that students see each day.

  • Our HVAC employees make sure that students have comfortable learning conditions.

  • Our Teacher Assistants provide support to our students and teachers.

  • Our Communications staff publicizes our mission and vision to the community and our employees.

  • Our Custodial staff keep our schools and buildings clean to provide a safe environment for our students and employees.
