The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named its 2014 semifinalists. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is represented by 38 students at nine high schools.

These CMS students join approximately 16,000 others from across the country vying for approximately 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $35-million. They became eligible for semifinalist status by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) as juniors and being among the highest-scoring students in the state.
To become a finalist, the semifinalists must submit a detailed scholarship application from their school and themselves. Finalists will be announced in Feb. 2014 and the winners announced in spring.
In 2013, CMS had 10 National Merit Scholarship winners.
