Courage during an emergency

Bryesha McBride, driver for the Garinger transportation area, is the latest winner of the I am CMS award.

McBride was nominated by her manager, Wendy Parker, after safely caring for students during an emergency.

On Jan. 19, McBride was driving a bus full of students headed to E.E. Waddell Language Academy when she smelled a burning odor and saw a hint of smoke coming from the hood. She pulled the bus over, got her students off the bus and kept them a safe distance away as the bus caught on fire. "We are so happy to have her as a part of our team," said Parker.

McBride was surprised on Feb. 13 by Superintendent Ann Clark, who presented her with the I am CMS award. "Your dedication to the safety of our students exemplifies what we are looking for in this award," said Clark.

McBride was presented with a $100 gift certificate from award sponsor Charles Monnett & Associates and will be professionally photographed for an I am CMS poster that will be displayed at her school. Nominations are now open for the next round of awards. Nominate a colleague here.
