On Thursday, April 22, Croft Community School will hold an assembly to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. There will be activities, including students singing songs and a new environmental video created by first-grade teacher Lisa Wiggins will be shown.
The four-minute video stars Wiggin’s students who talk about the Earth, the video also highlights environmental work performed by each school’s grade level. Click here to watch the Croft Community video.
“Our goal is to share the video with as many kids as possible,” Wiggins said. "I also want to spread the word about why the earth is important and what we can do every day to help.”
Wiggins created the video project as part of the Earth Expeditions program (www.earthexpeditions.org). Earth Expeditions is a global conservation and education program supporting university courses, degree programs and collaborative projects in Africa, Asia and the Americas. As part of the program, Wiggins traveled to Belize last year to learn about the country’s conservation efforts and this summer she’ll head to Thailand to learn about its environment. The program is designed to help teachers and scientists work together to learn about inquiry-based science and develop environmental partnerships around the globe.
“The program is amazing and has changed my teaching for the better,” Wiggins said.
