Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools won eight awards – five of them first-place – at the North Carolina State HOSA Leadership Conference, which was held at the Charlotte Convention Center March 7-9.
In all, 134 students from nine CMS high schools participated: Ardrey Kell, Butler, East Mecklenburg, Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences, Mallard Creek, Myers Park, Olympic, South Mecklenburg and Hough.

The district also won two second-place awards and one third-place award in the Individual Category. Second-place awards went to East Mecklenburg students Sarvesh Bandaru, Knowledge Test: Behavioral Health, and Tigest Aboye, Biomedical Laboratory Science. Ardrey Kell's Sam Bundy won third-place in Clinical Nursing.
HOSA is an international student organization formed to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.
