The halls of Beverly Woods Elementary were electric a group of parents, radio DJs and business representatives led the way to Susan Mann’s first-grade class. The door to the room slowly opened and, one-by-one, Mann's supporters came in to surprise her with the big news...Mann won the November Terrific Teacher Tuesday contest!

The Terrific Teacher Tuesday contest is sponsored by V101.9 FM and local businesses. The contest recognizes teachers who go above-and-beyond in the classroom.

“I knew she would be a great teacher just five minutes after meeting her,” said Principal Carolina Horne. “We’re so fortunate to have her at Beverly Woods.”

Mann is known for her initiative to raise achievement in math, called Daily 5 Math. She’ll soon share her techniques with other teachers at Beverly Woods.

“She’s the best teacher in the whole-wide world,” said Madison Cauncil, a student in the class. “She helps us learn math, reading and writing.”

As the winner, Susan received an Edible Arrangements Bouquet; a $45 gift card, courtesy of Outback Steakhouse; a Digital Camera, courtesy of Tempo and a new iPad, courtesy of State Farm.

Her students were the real winners, getting a pizza party from Papa John's.  

Terrific Teacher Tuesday winners are selected each month from an online contest held on the V101.9 FM website. The teacher who collects the most votes each month is selected as the winner. Each monthly winner will also get to compete for a grand prize—a new car!
