Main Points
The Board of Education will be asked to approve the request that the name of the school be changed to reflect the new era of the school community and the focus on academic achievement.  There is an excitement in the community about the reopening of their beloved school.  The principal convened a school naming committee, as required by CMS Policy FF, "Naming Facilities," and its accompanying regulation, to develop a list of three names for the school.  Following are the names in order of preference:
  1. Starmount Academy of Excellence - Name reflects goal to make Starmount a school whose main goal is to provide a rigorous, relevant and culturally responsive curriculum where all students can thrive and achieve at high levels.
  2. ALBA (Academy of Languages and Fine Arts) Elementary Starmount Campus - Name means "dawn" in Spanish and refers to the dawn of a new era at the school.  It also speaks to various cultures that will be represented and celebrated at the school.  The acronym stands for Academia de Lenguajes y Bellas Artes or Academy of Languages and Fine Arts.
  3. Starmount Elementary School - No change.
