Kathy Elling, Associate Superintendent of School Performance
Kelly W. Price, Executive Director Title I
The intent of services provided in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) through Title I, Part A, of the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA) of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school; its primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement. The intensive, targeted and customized supplemental instructional services provided through Title I are designed to help students overcome educational and economic disadvantages to prepare them to succeed in college and careers.
Title I will support the following initiatives in the 2017-2018 school year:
Title I support is provided to schools in which 46.3 percent (74 percent with CEP multiplier) or more of the students are considered economically disadvantaged. Title I resources provide support through supplemental staffing, instructional materials, technology, professional development and parent and family engagement activities. Once the Board approves the 2017-2018 Title I application, we will submit it to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) for approval and release funds to schools and departments.
