From the superintendent
Our 2013 bond request for $290 million was approved Nov. 5 by the voters of Mecklenburg County. This is very good news for everyone in Mecklenburg County – our students, our schools, our district and our community. Over the next four years, the bond money will be used to make some much-needed improvements in our schools. These improvements will address 17 high-priority projects, part of our $1.8 billion capital needs over the next decade.
The approval of these bonds is a strong indicator of community support for CMS and our schools. We are grateful for the support of our community on this and other initiatives in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Public education is a shared responsibility – and a strong public school district benefits our whole community, not only the students enrolled in it. It builds a strong workforce for the future, which will keep the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region’s economy robust and growing.
We appreciate the support of our parents, staff and the public. Working together, we will continue to strengthen our schools so that we educate every child, every day, for a better tomorrow!
