Talent Effectiveness Project
Instructional Staff
Instructional Staff

The instructional work stream focuses on classroom teachers, specialist teachers and other employees who interact directly with students on a daily basis. Counselors, speech therapists, facilitators and media specialists are included in this work stream. The Talent Effectiveness Project aims to reflect multiple perspectives on instructional practice and student learning.

We are committed to ongoing communication and involvement for those who relate directly to the work, including teachers and other educators, school leaders, and district staff who provide instructional and operational support. We believe that one of our essential duties is to inform and involve community members, and encourage them to be supportive of positive change. We are committed to allowing all voices to be heard during this process, so that any changes reflect the best ideas of our diverse, caring and creative community.

Teachers and other educators will have multiple opportunities for involvement and feedback so the outcomes and decisions reflect their experience and expertise. All CMS employees, as well as members of the community, will be invited to review and comment on the work as it goes forward.

The instructional work stream defines its specific goals for Talent Effectiveness as:

  • Working with teams of teachers to determine how best to measure the impact that they have upon their students, and using that data to support and guide them in their work
  • Drawing on the experience and expertise of district staff who support educators with curriculum resources, professional development, student testing and accountability data
  • Incorporating research, data and discussion to identify fair and valid measures of the impact of teachers and schools on student success
  • Identifying sources of professional development that will promote teacher growth and enable them to continually improve the student experience

The North Carolina standards for teachers are as follows:

  1. Teachers demonstrate leadership.
  2. Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students.
  3. Teachers know the content they teach.
  4. Teachers facilitate learning for their students.
  5. Teachers reflect on their practice.
