Custodial Services

Custodial Services Department oversees the custodial operations of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district. The department is currently staffed by 1 director, 4 supervisors, 14 area leaders and 754 custodians. The department works with schools’ administrative staff, manages, trains and directs custodians in the most cost effective manner while providing high quality customer service. We oversee the daily cleaning of 170 sites, approximately 21 million square feet and over 1000 mobile classrooms.

In order to provide all schools with a clean, safe and healthy environment, the Custodial Department and its staff provide, but not limited to: Daily/weekly/monthly/annual cleaning task, specialty cleaning task, solid waste removal, recycling program, gym floor refinishing, etc.  In addition to the routine cleaning task, we also handle coverage for Community Use activities, clean up after athletic events, set up furniture for special events/PTA functions, etc.

The department also works in parallel efforts with other work groups during construction, renovation and abatement as well as emergency situations such as; fire, water leaks, vandalism, inclement weather, to insure schools are ready for occupancy with little or no disruption. The department responds as needed on a 24/7 basis.

Business improvement plans, continuous improvement plans and key performance indicators have been established in order for us to support Section IV (Safe and Orderly Schools) and Section VI (World Class Service) of the Superintendents strategic Plan 2010.
