The investigations unit comes under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Police. The unit is made up of four full time plain clothes detectives, who are all sworn law enforcement officers with the powers of arrest in Mecklenburg County. These Detectives conduct criminal investigations as it relates to school property and work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. They also conduct sensitive investigations involving employee misconduct.
Deputy Chief Lisa Mangum
Deputy Chief Mangum has served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police since February 2014 after completing 30 years of Law Enforcement service with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
During her career with CMPD she served as a Patrol Officer, Homicide Detective, Patrol, Drug Interdiction and Homicide Supervisor.
Detective Angelia Cathcart
Detective Cathcart has served with the CMS Police Department since March 1999. Angela has been in law enforcement for over 18 years, having started her career with the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Detective Kenny Lynch
Detective Lynch has served the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police since August 2007 after serving as a Detective with the Huntersville Police Department for 6 years. Prior to that he served with the Richmond County Sheriff's Department in Augusta, Georgia. He has over 27 years law enforcement experience having worked in various units to include, Patrol Officer, Burglary Unit, Fraud Investigations Unit, Violent Crimes Unit, Homicide Unit and Child Exploitation Unit.
Detective Lynch currently serves as the departments training coordinator and insures that all sworn officers of the CMS Police Department receive the state mandated training to maintain their law enforcement certification.
Detective Susan Sarvis
Detective Sarvis has served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department since November 2016 after completing 30 years of Law Enforcement service with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
During her career with CMPD she served as a Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Youth/Juvenile Detective and Homicide Detective. After retirement, Detective Sarvis was rehired with CMPD to work in the Cold Case Homicide Unit before joining the CMS Police Department.
Detective Tim Jolly
Detective Jolly has served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department since April 2017 after completing 30 years of Law Enforcement service with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Detective Jolly has worked various units through out his career, to include Patrol Officer, Street Drug Interdiction, Street Crimes Unit, Violent Crimes Task Force, Gang Unit, Homicide Unit and the K-9 Unit. Detective Jolly was the first officer to work street gangs in the Charlotte area and did so for over 15 years.
