Home School Information

Planning Services is responsible for developing school boundaries.  Students are assigned to a home school based on their residential address. Each Mecklenburg County address has been assigned an elementary, middle and high school known as the home school. Students are automatically assigned to their home school upon enrollment. Transportation is provided to your home school.  If you have questions about school boundaries or need your transportation zone, email your address to planning.

School Options Lottery

Each year new and current CMS families have an opportunity to apply for Magnet/Career & Technical Education (CTE) or other school option programs through the online school options lottery.   The online lottery application provides families with a list of their school options based on the student’s residential address.  New families must enroll by the appropriate deadlines to participate in the lottery. If your child was previously enrolled in CMS but is not currently attending a CMS school or enrolled for the upcoming school year, you must first re-enroll prior to being able to submit a lottery application. The Phase I Options Lottery ended February 14, 2017. The Phase II Options Lottery Application for the 2017-18 school year will be available March 1, 2017 - March 29, 2017.
