CMS students selected to attend Governor's School

Thirty-nine Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students will pack their bags and spend six weeks studying dance, science, English, drama and more at the Governor’s School of North Carolina. The high school juniors and seniors will be among 800 students selected to attend the program from June 14 to July 25.

Students will study at one of the two campuses, Governor’s School West at Salem College in Winston-Salem or Governor’s School East at Meredith College in Raleigh. Qualifications for Governor’s School include nomination by a school administrator, outstanding academic record, qualifying test scores and a personal essay.

The Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically gifted high school students in the nation. The program is funded annually by the General Assembly of North Carolina and is free for students who are selected. It is administered by the Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division.
