Parent Toolkit
For Parents of High School Students

High School StudentsWelcome to CMS! This page is designed to help you get your student ready for high school.

High school is the last stage of public education before college. In high school, your child will continue to have multiple teachers and change classes during the day. CMS also offers high school students the opportunity for accelerated learning such as International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement courses.  These can help ready students for college. Graduating seniors at CMS are attractive to colleges and universities across the nation. The class of 2008 earned more than $78 million in scholarships – a new record for the district.

Starting in the 2008-2009 school year, students in CMS and elsewhere in North Carolina also must complete a Graduation Project. Work on that begins in the junior year of high school and the link below can provide more information for you and your student.

The other links below will help you locate your child’s school, tell you what immunizations and documents you will need to register your child and what supplies your child will need. You’ll also find links to bell schedules, lunch menus, transportation information, student assignment, sports eligibility and other important information.

The best source of information about your child’s progress is always the school. If you have questions that can’t be resolved by a teacher or a school administrator, please contact your school’s area learning community (see the link below). We urge you to stay involved in your child’s learning through high school to help your child reach the highest levels possible.

Have a great school year!
