About Charlotte
Page Content
Located in the heart of the Southeast, Charlotte lies within the southern Piedmont of North Carolina and along the state’s border of South Carolina. Charlotte is the largest and most accessible city between Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas. Due to its mid-Atlantic location, getting to Charlotte is easy from anywhere in the country or the world, hence its nickname "the International Gateway to the South."
Charlotte, NC is the 2nd largest city in the Southeastern United States. Charlotte is 2 hours from the Mountains, where you can go skiing is the winter and hiking in the spring, fall and summer and 3 hours from beaches and historic Charleston. Additionally, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a major international hub, and was ranked the 7th-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in 2018.
Bright sun and clear skies are common during the summer months. Unlike summers in some Southern cities, very hot weather conditions (higher than 90° F) usually occur only 36 days each year in Charlotte. Snow is infrequent, with an average annual accumulation of less than six inches. Even though you are in the south, you will still get a taste of all four seasons.

Arts & Culture
For cultural events, look no further than the Charlotte Ballet, Carolina Opera, and Blumenthal Performing Arts. The city hosts a variety of breathtaking ballets and stage shows, and its museums and galleries are among the foremost in the nation.
Attractions & Sports
Charlotte attractions are incredibly diverse, so you are sure to find something (or a lot of things) that are just your speed. Carowinds (a 400-acre amusement park), Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, and multiple museums are many attractions that will keep you busy for hours. Among Charlotte's many notable attractions, popular sporting events include the Carolina Panthers of the NFL, the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA, the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, the Charlotte Independence of the USL, the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse, NASCAR, and the Wells Fargo Championship.
Dining
Whether you crave international ingredients, something spicy or comfort food that reminds you of your childhood, you’ll get your fill in Charlotte. From mainstays that have weathered decades to the finest dining rooms and the latest culinary concepts, talented chefs are at the helm, keeping us hungry for more. The Charlotte-area is also continuing to expand its offerings at breweries where you will find local craft beer, cider, and kombucha . A range of activities are growing on the brewery scene as well, from fitness options, like yoga, to run and bike clubs.
Family Friendly
From educational attractions to those that are purely for the fun of it, Charlotte offers a lot to engage and excite kids. Kid classics include Discovery Place, an interactive science museum with an IMAX Dome Theatre on site, and ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center, a whimsical educational center that is part library, part theater and all about bringing stories to life. Here, sports are ever-popular with families and there is nothing like catching a foul ball at a Charlotte Knights game while snacking on Cracker Jacks.
Nightlife & Entertainment
Whether a concert at the Fillmore or PNC Music Pavilion, Jazz in the Park, or stand-up at The Comedy Zone, Charlotte has an array of nightlife and entertainment options that are sure to keep you busy!
Outdoors & Recreation
Most people in Charlotte like to play as hard as they work, by exploring our extensive greenway system or taking a trip to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, where you can go whitewater rating, canoeing, kayaking, rappelling, rock climbing and more.
