Board of Education vacancy in District 3
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education announced that its District 3 seat is vacant Jan. 13. Former District 3 representative Dr. Joyce Davis Waddell was sworn in as the new state senator representing District 40 and resigned from the Board.

The Board will be accepting applications for the seat until 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and a qualified voter in District 3. The candidate selected will finish Dr. Waddell’s remaining term, which ends December 2017. Applications may be picked up at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education’s Board Services office on the fifth floor of the Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St., Charlotte. Applications may also be completed online beginning Jan. 14 by visiting the Board of Education webpage.

Two special meetings will be held for candidate statements and candidate selection. Interviews will be Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Government Center, Room 267. Each applicant will make a brief statement to the Board. A candidate will be selected at a meeting on Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Spaugh Administrative Center, 1901 Herbert Spaugh Lane.
