Re-Opening of BSEP and ASEP for Elementary-Aged Students

After School Enrichment Program – Application Lottery Deadline

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted recently to enable CMS to begin offering fee-based After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) and Before School Enrichment Program (BSEP) services. These services will begin for Elementary students in grades K-5 as early as Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, and for Middle School students in grades 6-8 no earlier than Monday, Nov. 23.

Who Is Eligible?

Families are eligible to register their CMS students in grades K-5 or 6-8 to attend programs on the days those students are scheduled to attend in-person instruction. Programs also will be offered for K-5 students on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., as those days have been designated remote days for all K-5 students by the most recent Board of Education vote to amend the phased return to in-person learning.

Application Procedure

The ASEP and BSEP programs will have a limited number of seats, and the application for these will be via an online random lottery system. For those without access to  the internet, please contact your school to ask for assistance in entering the lottery; CMS also will work with community partners to help families register for ASEP/BSEP lottery spots.

The lottery is at the ASEP website and will open at 7:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, and close at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Only completed lottery applications within that time period will be considered for seats in ASEP and BSEP.

ASEP/BSEP for grades K-5 begins when students return for in-person instruction; the earliest date is Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.

ASEP/BSEP for grades 6-8 begins when those grades begin returning for in-person instruction; that is no earlier than Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: the lottery to apply for ASEP and/or BSEP is the same time period for both Elementary (K-5) and Middle School (6-8 students) even though grades will return at different times in the calendar year due to current BOE policy.

What are the Options?

Families with middle school students in grades 6-8 may apply for weekly ASEP and/or BSEP services (Monday – Friday) during their students' designated attendance day.
