Enrollment forms for the current school year (2020 – 2021) must be submitted to the student's home school.



​​​​Documents needed to enroll:

  • New Student Enrollment Form (for the current school year and future years)

  • Birth certificate or other proof of age and legal name proofs of Mecklenburg County residency

  • Safe Schools Enrollment Declaration - (Required for students transferring into CMS)

  • Current immunization records (Complete record required by first day of school entry)

  • Health Assessment​​ (All children entering NC public schools for the first time must submit proof of a health assessment within 30 days of the start of school.)

  • Health assessment and immunization requirements for school attendance​​

Age requirements

In compliance with North Carolina law students must be 5 years of age on or before August 31st to be considered for Kindergarten. Students applying for the Montessori schools Pre-K program  must be 4 years of age on or before August 31st in order to be considered.

Immunization and Health Assessment Requirements

In compliance with North Carolina law, all children entering NC public schools for the first time must submit proof of a health assessment within 30 days. The health assessment must have been completed within 12 months prior to the date the child would have first been eligible for initial entry into the public schools.  In addition, North Carolina law requires parents/guardian to present certification of immunizations on or before the first day of school entry. If documentation is not presented, parents and/or guardians have 30 calendar days to provide documentation or the student shall be excluded from school until proof is provided.

International Students

The mission of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ (CMS) International Center is to address the needs of culturally or linguistically diverse students, providing them with equal access to effective participation in the educational programs offered by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.


Key Dates 

Reassignment & Transfer Period for the 2020-2021 School year


February 10, 2020 – February 24, 2020* Request for Reassignment Period for Round I & II Lottery 
*Students brand new or re-enrolling to the district after this date will have ten business days after enrolling to submit a request for reassignment. Application does not guarantee approval.

February 25, 2020 – June 18, 2020** Request for Transfer period in order to receive an answer by the start of school
** Students brand new, re-enrolling or current CMS students can apply to schools not listed on the Superintendent's Closed School list. Application does not guarantee approval. 
 
January 6, 2020 – June 5, 2020: The Office of Student Assignment & School Choice will continue to receive and enter enrollment packets for home school placement for the 2019-2020 school year. After June 5, 2020, enrollment information needs to be taken to the home school based on the residential address of the biological parent or legal guardian.



Reassignment & Transfer Period for the 2021-2022 School Year

February 22, 2021– March 15, 2021*: Request for Reassignment Period for the district. 

*Students brand new or re-enrolling to the district after this date will have 10 business days after enrolling to submit a request for reassignment for the 2021- 2022 school year.  Application does not guarantee approval. 

March 16, 2021 – June 11, 2021**: Request for Transfer period in order to receive an answer by the start of school. 

**Students brand new, re-enrolling or current CMS students can apply to schools not listed on the Superintendent's Closed School List.  Application does not guarantee approval. 

January 18, 2021 – June 4, 2021: 

The Office of Student Assignment & School Choice will continue to receive and enter enrollment packets for home school placement for the 2021-2022 school year.  

After June 4, 2021, enrollment information needs to be taken to the home school based on the residential address of the biological parent or legal guardian.
