Members of the public had the opportunity to comment to the Board on the student assignment plan proposal for the 2017/18 school year.

Proposed amendments to Policy JCA, "Student Assignment Plan," and Exhibit JCA-E, "Student Assignment Plan Priorities - Magnet Programs," are before the Board for Public Hearing.

Significant changes to the policy and exhibit, which serve as the governing policy documents for the student assignment plan, are recommended to reflect the Board's review of the student assignment plan and are incorporated in the documents attached to this agenda item.

The policy and exhibit have been discussed by the Board and Policy Committee on numerous occasions since March 2015 and were the subject of a detailed report at the October 11, 2016 Board meeting.  They are scheduled for another public hearing on November 9, 2016 and for Board action later in that meeting.

Staff presented a brief report on Phase I work, including recommendations on socio-economic status and lottery methodology, transportation zones, additional school options, and entry and continuation requirements.
