2021-2022 Employee Increases and Bonuses

The state budget was approved in November 2021 and provides school district employees some long awaited recognition. Read the document below for detailed information regarding increases and bonuses for the 2021-2022 school year!

Employee Retention Incentives

On December 8, 2021, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved a one-time bonus, payable in two installments, to CMS staff to support employee retention. Read the FAQs below for important information regarding this incentive payment, payable December 22, 2021, and September, 2022!

Two additional payment dates* were approved at the February 8, 2022 Board meeting, increasing the total retention bonus amount to $5000 for full-time (FT) employees and $2500 for part-time (PT) employees hired on or before October 31, 2021. Bonuses are payable in four equal installments as indicated in the payment schedule below. Employees hired after October 31, 2021, will be eligible for bonuses based on their hire date.

Please note: Individuals must be employed through the processing date for each payment date to be eligible. Processing dates are around one week prior to payment.

2021-2022 Salary Schedules

Master's Degree or Higher Pay

*** In order to be approved for advanced degree pay, you must have completed a course toward your degree prior to August 1, 2013***

Eligibility for Master's or other advanced degree pay is approved by the Licensure department in compliance with state regulations. 

Per the North Carolina Public School Personnel Employee Salary and Benefits Manual, only the following teachers and instructional support personnel shall be paid on the Master's ("M") salary schedule, or receive a salary supplement for academic preparation at the six-year degree level or at the doctoral degree level for the 2014-2015 school year and subsequent school years:
  1. Certified school nurses and instructional support personnel in positions for which a master's degree is required for licensure.

  2. Teachers and instructional support personnel who were paid on that salary schedule or received that salary supplement prior to the 2014-2015 school year.

  3. Teachers and instructional support personnel who (i) complete a degree at the master's, six-year, or doctoral degree level for which they completed at least one course prior to August 1, 2013, and (ii) would have qualified for the salary supplement pursuant to State Board of Education policy TCP-A-006, as it was in effect on June 30, 2013."
Please note: Teachers who obtain their masters in administration, but are currently assuming the role of a classroom teacher must also meet one of the above three (3) criteria in order to be paid on the masters, six-year, or doctoral degree level.

Substitute Pay Rates

Instructional Substitute Daily Rates & Bonus Program (effective January 1, 2022)

​Monthly Bonus Program: Receive a bonus based on the number of completed assignments in any given month.  Bonuses will be paid in the month following the month in which they were earned.
$200 bonus for completing 5-9 assignments in one month

$500 bonus for completing 10 or more assignments in one month
