Calendar Policies and Regulations
Each year the Board of Education will adopt a school calendar for the upcoming school year that is consistent with requirements of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and North Carolina law. The school calendar shall support the following objectives:
  • Provide significant blocks of uninterrupted instructional time;
  • Minimize the loss of instructional time;
  • Maximize the use of teacher workdays for school-based and centralized inservice opportunities by reducing district-imposed conflicts on designated teacher workdays;
  • Enhance the ability of school-based personnel, central staff and parents to plan ahead; and
  • Enhance communication between the district and parents and the community.
The Superintendent shall develop regulations setting forth detailed guidelines for developing the calendar, including determining the opening and closing times of the school day for each school.
